đ±Post 2 of 6 | Your First 90 Days: Donât Just Survive â Lead With Purpose
This is part 2 of my 6-part series on executive transitions, drawn from my chapter in Coaching Perspectives X.
One of the fastest ways for a new executive to build credibility? Show meaningful progress in the first 90 days. It doesnât have to be perfect. But it does need to be visible, intentional, and grounded in a plan.
When I coach newly promoted leaders, we often co-design a 90-day roadmap with 6 core pillars:
đč Assess the lay of the land
Understand culture, resources, and power dynamics. Especially if youâre new to the organization.
đč Clarify expectations
Ask sponsors what success looks like in 90 days. If they donât tell you, define it yourself.
đč Strengthen your network
Peers, clients, stakeholders, teams â build chemistry early. It pays off for years.
đč Co-create your critical path
Use coaches, mentors, and sounding boards to sharpen your plan. Donât go it alone.
đč Connect with your team
People follow leaders who listen, support, and share vision. Be that leader.
đč Communicate wins and blockers
Let leadership and teams know whatâs working. Escalate showstoppers early.
đŻ Itâs not about overachieving. Itâs about showing leadership from Day One.
đ I explore this model more fully in Coaching Perspectives X â but the core idea is simple:
Your 90-day plan is your leadership launchpad.
đ What did your first 90 days look like in a new role â and what do you wish you'd done differently?
